This sparkling event offers plenty of water-based activities, including wakeboarding and aquaballs to try out and free boat rides.

A “fun bus” offers free children’s activities topped by a lantern procession, while visitors to the Royal Victoria Dock on September 29 will, for the first time, have the chance to view the Siemens Crystal.

The iconic ultra-modern building is home to the world’s largest exhibition to focus on urban sustainability which aims to “stimulate discovery and learning”.

Split into zones, the centre explores areas including water, transport, city design and energy management.

But it is the Bootleg Beatles that should bring the house down when they take to the stage in the early evening.

Formed from the cast of the 1979 West End musical Beatlemania, the group have shared stages with Oasis, The Corrs, Simple Minds and headlined with Iggy Pop.

They were the first to launch the tribute genre and have played arenas to 70,000 fans and toured the world.

Outside of the Bootlegs as individuals, the band members have played on many of Robbie Williams’ CD tracks and toured with Steve Hackett, Jack Bruce, former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor and Kylie Minogue. In fact the BBs have been together longer than The Beatles were.

Shows can include five spectacular costume and set transformations from The Cavern of 1962 via Shea Stadium, Sgt Pepper and The Magical Mystery Tour to the rooftop of the Apple Building in 1969, all with original Fab Four instruments.

The festival runs from 2pm to 9pm and will be capped off with a spectacular fireworks display over the water at 8.40pm.

There is no public parking, so use public transport such as DLR/Royal Victoria Station and buses 147, 241 to Royal Victoria.

Part of the event is on grass and you may be searched as a condition of entry.

No glass bottles or dogs.
