Opinion West Ham MP says Rishi Sunak's budget 'simply does not deliver'
Another year and another budget from a Government that simply does not deliver.

Like so many, I was shocked horrified and sickened by the death of George Floyd in America and the violence that many police services in the USA have used against justified protests.
No-one can have missed the fact that Boris Johnson closed parliament on Monday, September 9. The prime minister is clearly scared that, if MPs like me are allowed to do our jobs, we’ll expose his appalling mishandling of Brexit and halt his destructive No Deal plans.
One of the greatest pleasures of my job is visiting local schools and meeting ambitious, active, inspiring and enquiring young people.
Driving back from Westminster, I witness the crowds flocking to see the unique and awe inspiring ceramic poppy field at the Tower of London. It is a red carpet of 888,246 poppies, one for each British and Colonial life lost in the First World War.
I just drove past the bleeding body of a young man, curled upon the pavement around the corner to my home. Several Police officers were with him. He seemed to be clutching a stomach wound. It’s Friday: not yet 10pm.
Soon, I expect, we shall debate the Assisted Dying Bill. It will be an emotive and impassioned occaision.
Throughout this year, we’ll hear much about the “Great War:” the first World War 1914-1918. Like many Newham people, my family fought in it. My great grandfather and his brothers, all from Canning Town, went, fought and survived. Many friends and neighbours weren’t so lucky.
Regular readers know how often I complain this government have run out of steam. They have no sense of urgency: no dynamism. They passed self-serving legislation for five-year Parliaments; otherwise, there would have been a general election before now. Unnerved by Ukip’s rise in the polls and Euro election results, both coalition parties believe they will be losers at the next general election. They’re distracted by infighting, stumbling towards the inevitable leadership battles, which always follow defeat. Regrettably, the Queen’s Speech was dominated not by flagship policies setting the country back on track, but by fainting page boys and feuding ministers.
As I write, we’re waiting for the results of Newham’s European, Councillor and Mayoral elections. Through elections such as these, many people channel their desire to serve our communities and deliver improvements to our area. I pay tribute to their public service.
