No-go for new firework display on Wanstead Flats

With forecasts of more rain to come this week, Newham Council have decided not to re-arrange its free display of fireworks and music on Wanstead Flats, which was called off on Sunday because the site was soggy

Heavy overnight rain had made conditions at the site unsuitable particularly for families with young children.

The cancellation was announced on the and council websites, on social media and through the Recorder website.

A spokesperson for the City of London Corporation, which manages Wanstead Flats, also said the area marked out for the event “was deemed a crowd safety risk.”
