The soaring summertime vocals of Guida de Palma descend upon the Rich Mix in Bethnal Green Road on tonight.
A night of Latin, jazz and bossa nova awaits audiences as de Palma and her band Jazzinho return to the UK for the first time in three years.
Jazzinho, for those not familiar with the Portuguese language, is a hybrid word combining jazz and the Portuguese suffix -inho, which denotes small.
Endorsed by JazzFM, the classically trained singer from Lisbon cites Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Gilberto Gil among her major influences.
Having been discovered in Paris at the age of 16, her rich and varied career spans collaborations with Jaco Pistorius, Cab Calloway and countless others.
Performing new material from her third studio release and recent JazzFM album of the week, Veludo, de Palma will fill the venue with soaring notes and evocative beats. Her lyrics flit back and forth from Portuguese and English so that the words blend into the music almost creating another musical instrument.
In a nod to her versatility, she describes herself as a woman of many facets.
She said: “I’m a mother. I’m a singer. I’m a teacher, and I’m a sinner. I play my music in the sun.”
The performance starts at 9pm.
Tickets start at £18. Call 020 7613 7498 to book.
