Wild Food and Bushcraft in London celebrates the forgotten art of foraging.

Experienced survival expert Wendy Parton will show people what treasures can be found in the city’s green spaces.

Wendy, 34, of Masterman Road, East Ham, originally hails from Australia where she grew up with a fascination with the outdoors.

Inspired by the way indigenous cultures strike a balance with nature, she aims to reconnect people to this in a modern urban life.

Wendy said: “I would like to teach people about how our ancestors used to live, introduce a slower paced activity in their lives and give them an appreciation of their surroundings.”

She continued: “There are a lot of shows, like Bear Grylls and Ray Mears, to bring it back but it is not just about survival.

“The indigenous cultures live in harmony rather than taking from their environment. It is about building a relationship.”

A qualified outdoor instructor, Wendy has led expeditions all over the world where she has learned innovative survival methods and bushcraft skills from indigenous groups internationally.

With this workshop Wendy will give people the opportunity to try food prepared with ingredients that have grown wild in Newham.

She will also talk about the little known health properties of seemingly ordinary plants and flowers.

Wendy said: “I think bushcraft is very much needed in a society that has in some ways drifted away from our ancestral and natural roots.

“It gives people an opportunity to connect with a part of themselves that they have forgotten or never come into contact with before.”

The workshop takes place on May 29 at Red Doors Studios in Masterman Road, East Ham.

Donations are welcome.

Wendy also organises foraging dinners, private events and educational programmes for schools.
