Carpe Momentum (seize the moment) is a collection of 64 shots encapsulating everyday human life.

Christopher Jonas has been taking photographs for 40 years alongside his career in business (he is chairman of Henderson International Income Trust and ECN Live) but has finally found the time to indulge his passion more seriously.

He said: “There are two themes I follow. One is classic street photography, out and about in public places, and these pictures are mainly close-up; I have the face of the person or head and body quite focused. These are black and white as I think colour deviates from the action.”

He continued: “I am also very fond of working in art galleries, museums, cathedrals and churches where you can photograph the environment and architecture with its paintings, sculptures and people. These are mainly in colour with the sharp clarity and colours of the architecture and artefacts in the background and slightly blurred images of people.”

Christopher explores the transient relationship of people to their environment.

The use of crystal clear focus and blurring belies great technical ability, which he insisted is very important for any budding photographer to master.

Christopher added: “I suppose the first challenge is patience. It can take two hours to get the photograph.

“If you have an idea you will get a good picture somewhere it doesn’t present itself immediately so, essentially, you need to be patient enough and quick enough – carpe momentum.”

The photos are being displayed at One Canada Square until August 29 and some can be bought as limited edition prints.

All proceeds from the sales will go towards children’s charity Kids Company.
