An exciting and interactive children’s show featuring cutting edge voice technology is coming to Spitalfields Festival in June.

Children aged six to 11 are invited to Uluzuzulalia, a magical journey with Queen Victor the Fabulous and Bobolo to explore the boundaries and versatilities of their voices.

Uluzuzulalia is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed vocal artist Dr Yvon Bonenfant who has extensively researched the benefits vocal exploration can bring to children.

Different rooms filled with audio-visual effects, fabric, microphones and mirrors will be on hand as Queen Victor and Bobolo, both established voice performers, show children all the things their voices can do without speaking.

The sounds will contribute to a final composition that promises to inspire and educate.

Yvon said: “I am really interested in exploring all the things the voice can do that it doesn’t usually do. Children want to see what they can do with their voices and bodies.”

Yvon collaborated with scientist Prof Kathy Best, studying child development and the way youngsters acquire language, explaining that there is a higher percentage of multilingual people in the world than there are monolingual.

The team believes that these events can be beneficial to the way children learn music and language.

Yvon added: “Children don’t realise how sophisticated they are, especially when it comes to music. I think unfortunately what many children in the western world see is pop music reserved for a particular kind of image.”

He continued: “I really wanted to do something that would contradict that idea. Although the children do sing we never call it singing, as when you say that, they shut their mouths because they think their voices are ugly.

“I wanted to design something whereby, rather than thinking their voices are ugly, children can see what their voices can do.”

The event is from 4:30pm on June 10 and tickets cost £5. To book or for more details call 020 7377 1362.
