The black armour and the horned helmet, not to mention the nifty gadget belt - helped the caped crusader to win a poll by Lovefilm.

More than 3,500 fans took part.

The survey revealed Batman is also battling it out with arch rival The Joker in the fashion stakes.

The Joker was voted the best dressed villain.

Meanwhile, the second best superhero costume was the gadget-packed Iron Man costume worn by Robert Downey Jr, while third was Thor - as played by Chris Hemsworth.

The top villain accessory was judged to be the metallic arms of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2.
