Photographer Nicola Pritchard spent four years working at a community TV channel at the Stratford site before it was earmarked for demolition.

Now she has used her experiences to give an insight into the upheaval faced by three of its older residents.

She said: “I got to know the residents while working on the estate between 2002 and 2006 because I was making films about it.

“So many of the properties, where people used to live are now empty.”

The pictures show the three women, named as Jean, 83, Fran, 92, and 90-year-old Marge, preparing to vacate their empty homes.

Newham Council started its decanting programme in 2005 and last year signed an agreement with the University College London (UCL) to develop proposals for a campus on the site.

Remaining unhappy residents have formed the campaign group Carpenters Against Regeneration Plans (CARP), and have protested against the way the process has been handled.

But despite the poignancy of the exhibition, Mrs Pritchard, who lives in north London. said she did not have any strong feelings about the rehousing scheme.

She added: “I do know that some of the people are upset to move.”

The exhbition entitled On Your Marks, Get Set … Go! is on show in Doran Walk until August 12.
