Inspired by the regular Sunday exhibitions by the Bayswater Road Artists on the railings of Hyde Park, the Art on the Rails exhibition will be held on the railings of Stratford Park from July 28 to August 13.

Chair of the Organising Committee Deborah said: “We want to show the world how really creative and talented the people of Newham are.

“We want to promote and display Newham art and work with Newham artists and hopefully help them to sell their works.”

Already in the advanced stages of planning, the exhibition received the maximum funding of £500 from Newham Council’s Get the Party Started scheme, and it has been working with Rosetta Arts Centre and the Newham Arts Development Foundation.

Deborah added: “I’ve never organised anything like this before but I have teamed up with people who do know more about doing this sort of thing.

“But I was thinking about events that we could do with the Olympics and Jubilee coming up and I thought wouldn’t it be nice if those railings were ablaze with art during the Olympics?”

The outdoor exhibition will also have a charitable side as 10 per cent of artists’ commissions will be donated to a local charity.

Newham artists wanting to get involved with Art on the Rails are invited to email submissions in a jpeg format to artontherails@gmail.com with the name of the artist along with the size, medium, title, and asking price of the work.

All submissions must be “flat art” able to hang on the railings with ease and all entries must be submitted by the closing date of Friday May 25.

Preference will be given to people who volunteer to help run the exhibition by emailing deborahjcollins@hotmail.co.uk.
