On Saturday September 15 to September 16 at Red Door Studios in Masterman Road, local crafters, businesses, and authors are getting together for a vintage extravaganza.

Billed as a ‘one stop shop for all your DIY and upcycling needs’, a number of items inspired by the period of post-war optimism and redevelopment such as collectibles, homeware, furniture, a boudoir with clothing and jewellery, and haberdashery will be available.

To celebrate local heritage, residents with first-hand knowledge from the post-war period will share their expertise while a discussion will be hosted on Sunday by author Matthew Crampton who recently published ‘The Trebor Story’, an illustrated history of the sweet factory in Forest Gate.

Supported by Newham Bookshop and Muddler Books, Matthew will be talking to two of the original Sugar Girls Eva and Gladys who featured in Sunday Times bestseller ‘The Sugar Girls’.

Craft demonstrations will be held in association with the East London Craft Guerillas while Red Door Studios gets people crocheting and knitting.

Vintage hair and make-up specialists Candyout are also on hand to release your 50s glamour girl so you can enjoy the ‘Sugar Girls’ tea garden soundtracked by the hits of the era and try a cake or two from local baker Adam the Pastry Guy.

Retro arrives at Red Door Studios, Masterman Road, rear of 120 High Street South, East Ham, E6 3HW on Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16 from 10am to 5pm, entry £2.

For more information, follow Red Door Studios on Twitter @RedDoorStudios and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RedDoorStudiosE6.
