Building on an initial idea by Senior Pastor Peter Nembhard, Janet Wolfe, Terrel Wilson, Jonathan Butler, and Angela Campbell, painted away in the Visual Ministry Department of ARC to make centrepieces and scenery to enhance the messages of sermons through art.

Proving a popular way to integrate creativity into everyday church life, Angenita Blackwood, Lola Chott, and Sharon Gaspard also came on board and their collection, entitled ‘For His Glory’, is now a major visual art exhibition in Stratford.

Janet said: “We have one painting a week that we make as a visual centrepiece because everyone learns differently.

“Some people hear things and remember, others can read things and take it in, others need something visual, and we do it as another way for people to learn in church.

“Most of us would describe it as a gift, it’s the way we express ourselves and communicate, and none of it would offend anyone, it’s just all good moral stuff.

“We feel we want to inspire people, get a good message out, really. I mean, one of the paintings is about how good it is to be a mother, and another one is about reaching out and helping people out in the community.”

‘For His Glory’ is a free exhibition running from August 28 to September 21, from 8.30am to 6pm from Monday to Friday at East Gallery, 29-35 West Ham Lane, Stratford, E15 4PH.
