The Pale Fox is a multimedia show featuring a variety of themes from the history of the universe to the universe of the artist’s studio.

Demonstrating Henrot’s breadth as an artist, the exhibition comprises found objects, drawing, sculpture and digital imagery.

The title of the show refers to a 1965 anthropological study of the West African Dogon people whose mythology is thought to integrate the beliefs of several cultures. As well as this, astronomical, mathematical and philosophical thought systems can be found.

The fox in this instance represents disorder, chaos and creation.

The different elements in the work have been described by Henrot as not a collection of objects but instead a “narration or an experience”.

The arrangement of the exhibition focuses on the nature of questions and reactions to them.

She said: “You could be looking at an image that is connected with beauty or a feeling of tenderness, like the baby picture, but then very quickly you switch to images that relate to the pollution of water or anorexia.

“In my own life, there is the dichotomy between order and disorder, and the question of choice is very present.”

The complex scope of the exhibition lends itself perfectly to the curator’s guide where the viewer can discover the subtle nuances in Henrot’s work.

Admission is free but booking is advised. Email mail@chisenhale.org.uk to reserve a place.
