Art on the Railings, an exhibition of flat art on the railings around Stratford Park, opened for free to the viewing public on Saturday and will continue until August 11.

Deborah Collins, who lives nearby and has never organised an exhibition before, was inspired at a ‘Get the Party Started’ meeting and the Newham Live event taking place in her local park.

On the project’s website, www.artontherailings2012.org.uk, Debbie said: “When the Mayor said that there’d be big screens up in Stratford Park, right behind my house, showing the Olympics all day, every day, I realised that there’d be hundreds of people about.

“And I thought, wouldn’t it be a good idea if local artists could display their work on the park fence, just like the Bayswater Road artists do on the railings of Hyde Park every Sunday?

“It would look beautiful, show the world some of the talent and creativity that abounds in Newham, and the artists could maybe even sell their paintings, drawings and photographs.”

Art on the Railings is at Stratford Park, West Ham Lane, E15 4SG daily from 10am to 8pm.
