Following Newham Swords Fencing Club’s huge success at the recent British Youth Championships, the club were at it again at the weekend.
The Swords collected bronze and silver medals at the Southampton National Junior Premier Series event in fine style.
Having been named ‘Best British Junior Club’ due to all its success achieved this season at the Championships, they followed that up as Lister schoolgirl Rachel Shaw took silver in the girls’ under-14 age group.
That result now puts Shaw in the top two of the National Premier Series Rankings, while club-mate James Page took bronze in the boys’ under-14 event.
Newham Swords are now preparing for the London Youth Games which take place later this month.
There, the club will be hoping for a sixth successive win of the fencing trophy for their borough of Newham – a feat that has never been accomplished in the history of the event.
HEAVYWEIGHT Wadi Camacho answered a national call once again last week when he was selected for the England squad to box in the international clash with Ireland at west London’s Marriott Hotel.
