Pupils win basketball competition

St Edwards were crowned kings of the court at a Langdon School Sports Partnership basketball competition last week.

After edging past St Helens (4-2) and Sandringham (5-4), they proved too strong for Elmhurst (12-0).

And despite losing to St Lukes, they topped the qualifying group with 10 points.

A 6-0 win in a rematch with St Lukes in the semi-finals set up a decider with Sandringham, who had beaten St Helens in the other tie.

And St Edwards kept their nerve to claim a 7-5 victory and lift the silverware.

Results: Elmhurst 0 Sandringham 12; St Edwards 4 St Helens 2; Elmhurst 0 St Lukes 8; Sandringham 2 St Helens 2; St Lukes 0 St Helens 12; Sandringham 4 St Edwards 5; St Edwards 12 Elmhurst 0; Sandringham 1 St Lukes 0; St Helens 12 Elmhurst 0; St Lukes 6 St Edwards.

Semi-finals: Sandringham 10 St Helens 4; St Lukes 0 St Edwards 6.

Third-place: St Lukes 2 St Helens 10. Final: Sandringham 5 St Edwards 7.
