Monday’s quarter-final clash against Eddie Lynch over at Hainault proved to be an evenly-matched contest played on an excellent green and it seemed like Morley was getting the better of things when he moved into a 15-10 lead.

However, Lynch hit back to take the next two ends and make it 15-13 and from then on it was tit for tat in some very tight heads as the quality of the bowls stayed high.

Morley held sway at 18-17, until Lynch delivered a perfect wood to level matters, only for the Plashet bowler to go in front again going into the final end.

But it was to be Lynch who held his nerve on that final end as two loose woods from Morley allowed him to sneak in and take the match 22-20 and with it a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Plashet Park won a rink, drew another, but then crucially lost the final rink to slip to a narrow defeat in their latest Cribbs Triples League clash with North Greenwich on Wednesday.

The big winners for Plashet on the day were Alan Hogwood’s rink of Ismail Umerji and Peter Chilkes, although they certainly had to work hard for their victory against a determined team skipped by R McWilliams.

Hogwood had to save a number of ends as the visitors had taken control and in the end it did the trick as they ran out winners by 22-15.

The second rink was nip and tuck all the way with neither side giving an inch in a very tight encounter.

Yusef Saeed skipped Harry Morley and Yakub Karim in the clash and they held their nerve all the way to the end as the match finished 13-13.

That left things down to the last end and that proved a very different, high-scoring encounter.

It was A Blackall’s North Greenwich team that called the shots here as they proved too strong for the Plashet team of Moosa Patel, Dilaver Master and skip A Bashir Patel.

Patel’s team never gave up, but their eventual defeat by 26-16 mean the match was lost 54-51 overall.
