Amy Marren finished fourth in the S9 women's 400m freestyle

Youngster shines once again

Amy Marren produced another excellent swim to finish fourth in the S9 women’s 400m freestyle final last night.

Hornchurch youngster Marren, 14, finished almost three seconds quicker than in the morning heats, clocking four minutes 50.79secs.

And the Newham-born Marren proved herself as one to watch for Rio behind the big three of gold medalist Natalie du Toit, her GB teammate Steph Millward, who finished second and Australia’s Ellie Cole, who took bronze in 4:42.87.

Hall Mead pupil Marren, fifth in the 100m backstroke final at her first Paralympic Games, returns to the Aquatic Centre later this morning for the 50m freestyle heats.

The final takes place at 8.30pm.

British teammate Susie Rodgers also finished fourth last night, in the S7 women’s 50m freestyle final.

London-based Rodgers, with two bronze medals already to her name, clocked 34.08secs to finish just short of a third medal behind Ukraine’s Ali Palian.
