London Lions head coach Vince Macaulay has moved quickly to replace Ben Smith by adding veteran guard Chez Marks to his roster.
A former London Towers players, the 6ft 3ins shooting guard has spent the majority of his professional career in the British Basketball League, starting this season with the Glasgow Rocks before being released last month, averaging 16 points per game and shooting 50 per cent from the floor.
Marks has also played for Plymouth Raiders and the Cheshire Phoenix.
Since Marks’ return to the BBL from League’s in France and Hungary, he has established a reputation as a dynamic scorer culminating numbers of 22.8 points per contest which was enough to lead the entire league in this statistical category for the 2012/13 season.
Lions boss Macaulay revealed exclusively to London24 that the club had released Ben Smith from his contract with the US guard returning home.
He said: “We felt we needed a little more dynamism and aggression on offence, Ben was a great guy and we thank him for working with us. I expect Chez to fit in smoothly and look forward to working with him.”
Marks will make his debut for the Lions on December 27 in Sheffield and make his first home appearance at the Copper Box two days later when the Lions host the Newcastle Eagles.
