Haringey Police boxer Nicola Adams is through to the Olympic final in the women’s flyweight division after defeating India’s five-time world champion Mery Kom.
Adams, the No2 seed, beat Kom by two points in the quarter-finals of the World Championships in May – and she dominated from the start when the pair met again in the London 2012 semi-finals today.
Fighting in front of Prime Minister David Cameron and the 2004 Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan, the 29-year-old took the first round 3-1 and continued to extend her lead throughout.
Adams, the only British female boxer left in the Olympics, led 5-2 after the second of the four two-minute rounds and was 8-4 up going into the final round en route to a comprehensive 11-6 triumph.
That took her into the gold medal fight against the world No1, China’s Ren CanCan, who has won two of the pair’s three previous meetings – including the final of the World Championships three months ago.
