100m heats: 1. Dwain Chambers, 2. Jimmy Vicaut, 3. Keston Bledman
Dwain Chambers won his heat with a fantastic time of 10.02 – his fastest time for a long time.
With St Kitts and Nevis star Kim Collins sent home for apparently seeing his wife in a hotel it made the Islington-born star’s job slightly easier.
He made a good start and built from there to win his heat comfortably from Jimmy Vicaut and Keston Bledman.
“You don’t understand how scared I was,” Chambers told the BBC. “I’m just glad to get through the heat.
“The crowd definitely inspired me.
“You can run well all year but ultimately you have to run fast in the championships.
“My season’s best was 10.25 and I’ve now run 10.02.”
