Lewisham 400m runner Conrad Williams has compared himself to a gladiator ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.

The Kent born athlete wants to do Great Britain proud when he steps onto the track at the Olympic Stadium.

“It’s about the 60,000 people who have come from across Britain, you want to do it for yourself and for them. You don’t want to let them down.

“It’s like you’re a gladiator. You’ve got the crowd and put on the biggest show you can. You’re so focused on the next 44 seconds — that can make or break you. Sometimes you’re so in the zone you can walk past a friend and don’t even see them. It’s beyond nerves. You concentrate on that moment alone.”
