The Lee Valley White Water Centre hosts the start of the season for Britain’s canoeists

The Lee Valley White Water Centre welcomes Britain’s top canoeists for the start of the season this weekend, with a home World Championships for the first time in 20 years looming later in the year.

Olympic champion Etienne Stott and silver medallists David Florence and Richard Hounslow were at Lee Valley for the launch of ticket sales for the 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.

The 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships take place at Lee Valley from 16-20 September,featuring 300 of the world’s top Canoe Slalom athletes.

The event was last held in the UK in 1995 and will see World Champions will be crowned in five disciplines, with qualification of boats for the 2016 Olympic Games also decided.

There will be free family-friendly activities on offer, with a bouncy castle, climbing walls and an opportunity to try your hand at paddling.

Olympic gold medallist Etienne Stott, said: “London 2012 was the best experience of my life and everywhere I go people talk about how exciting it was to watch. To now have a home World Championships on this amazing course, which is still the very best in the world, is a dream come true for me and all my team mates.”
