UEL SPORTS DOCK

The University of East London are hosting some new sports programmes at their new SportsDock complex

University of East London (UEL) is encouraging people in the borough to capitalise on the feel good factor of the London 2012 Games by signing up for new and exciting sports programmes.

Starting on September 24 and funded through Sport England, ‘Sportivate’ will offer a number of free sports courses for 14-25-year-olds.

As part of the eight-week programme, people will be able to try out a variety of sports for free including badminton, football, judo, cardio tennis, gymnastics and volleyball.

The university has also recently appointed a Tennis Coordinator who will help UEL deliver a programme of mini tennis to local residents, alongside the increasing popular cardio tennis for university staff and students.

The coordinator will also oversee the management of tennis players who will compete for UEL in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) league.

A link with local high performance tennis provider WimX has also been established to enable the next generation of tennis players to be identified and offered the opportunity to develop their talent on UEL’s elite scholarship scheme.

David Cosford, Director of Sport at UEL, said: “This is yet another fantastic example of Olympic legacy in action at UEL. We’ve just experienced the greatest games ever, so there is quite rightly a tremendous buzz about sport in East London at the moment.

“In order to keep that momentum going, I would really encourage young people and young adults to visit SportsDock and try out one of the many different sports we have on offer.”
