Ramgarhia Hockey Club paid tribute to one of their former players before Saturday’s game with a minutes silence for Gurbinder Singh Hunjan.

Hunjan collapsed and died in the warm-up of their match at Cambridge University a year ago last Sunday and the Ramgarhia players were keen to pay tribute to the 42-year-old.

“We decided to have a minute’s silence for Gurbinder as it was almost exactly a year to the day that he died on the pitch,” said club spokesman Kulraj Rihal.

“He died on the same day that Fabrice Muamba had his heart attack playing for Bolton Wanderers at Tottenham, but unfortunately the paramedics were not able to save Gurbinder.”

The silence was well observed by both teams.
