Plashet Park bowler Harry Morley is certainly finding some form at the moment as he not only booked a place in the first round proper of the coveted Dane Bowl competition, he also helped his club to victory in the Cribbs Triples League.

Morley took on Sol Macatonia of Cranbrook Park in the Dane Bowl Singles on home territory and showed his power with a 21-12 victory against a useful opponent.

He then skipped Moosa Patel and Jim Brady in the Cribbs Triples League clash against Aldersbrook on Wednesday and was involved in a real thriller.

Eddie Townsend’s Aldersbrook rink started much the better and opened up a commanding 13-2 lead at the midway point.

But Morley and his troops changed tactics, decided to move the mat and jack length on every end and it proved to be most effective as they hauled themselves back into the match and grabbed a 15-13 lead with one end to go.

However, the drama was not quite finished there as Townsend held two shots on that final end, only for Morley to draw second shot with his last wood, and despite dropping a single, they held on for a 15-14 victory.

That helped the Plashet cause, especially as Yusef Saeed’s rink of Yaqub Karim and Dilander Master found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-13 scoreline against Martin Plumb and his boys.

That left the destiny of the game down to the first rink and Plashet Park proved up to the task.

Barry Menzies, Cliff Dye and skip A Bashir Patel were in fine form as they battled their way to an excellent 16-10 victory over Jerry Quy and his boys to secure the match 44-40.

Plashet Park and Fords braved the rain and the cold on Sunday, but it was Fords who came away smiling after they claimed two of the three rinks in their East Ham & District League clash.

There was some good news as Alan Hogwood’s rink of Alf Goring, Frank Adams and Yusef Saeed finally saw off the threat of G Raby and his Ford boys.

They had started superbly to race into a healthy lead up to the 12th end, only for Fords to hit back over the next seven ends and move within two shots with two ends to go.

Hogwood and his team held their nerve though and won the game 23-17, but it was to prove in vain as the other two rinks did not fare so well.

Vic Byrne and his team of Moosa Patel, Barry Menzies and Cliff Dye started slowly, but by the eighth end they had caught and passed their Fords’ opponents.

However, dropping a five on the 12th end proved the turning point and they eventually went down 27-20.

On the other rink it was a dismal start in the rain that was to cost Dilaver Master, Ken Carter, Harry Morley and skip A Bashir Patel. They never recovered, going down 22-14 as Fords won the match overall 66-57.
