Tessa Sanderson Foundation’s Liam Grant continues to excel in the table tennis world after winning the under-13s Greater London Table Tennis Championship on Sunday.

Ranked at number 10 in his age group, Grant also went close in the under-15 category only to lose out in the final of the event held in Mile End.

In a field of 56 players, Grant, trained by Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy (TSFA) coach Shu Huang, progressed all the way to the final where he played top seed Omar Khassal.

And it needed five games for Grant to win it 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8.

The last event of the weekend was the under-15 category, and Grant returned in a field of 96 players in the singles event.

He pulled off a shock victory over second seed Gabriel Achampong 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 over five pulsating games to reach the semi-final where he faced England’s number 48 cadet Olamide Wuraola.

Grant comfortably saw him off in three straight games 11-5, 11-6,11-5 for a place in the final.

Taking on Marcus Giles, Grant lost the opening game 11-7, before responding in the second with an 11-9 win.

Giles was up against it but edged the next two sets 11-9 and 14-12 as Grant had to settle for a superb second spot.
