Londoner looking forward to Olympic event
London’s Steve Grotowski is hoping a partisan home crowd can help Team GB’s beach volleyball hopes at Horse Guards Parade.
Grotowski and parnter John Garcia-Thompson are Britain’s lone representatives in the men’s competition, while Zara Dampney and Shauna Mullin compete in the women’s event.
And Grotowski is sure the locals will get into the Olympic spirit and help their quest, saying: “With 15,000 people cheering you on you don’t know what you can achieve.
“We’re very focused on what we’re trying to do and our preparation over the last month has been brilliant, so we’re in good shape to deliver our best performance.
“It has been a great experience so far, all the staff from Team GB have been really helpful and I’m enjoying my time here a lot.
“We have all been training hard and it has gone really well so far, and now I’m preparing to focus on the competition beginning in around ten days time.
“Our first goal is to get through the preliminary matches and after that, who knows?”
Myles Cousins booked his place in the Junior ABA quarter-finals this coming weekend as one of the clearest winners in a London ABA team that faced the Home Counties champions at the Regal, Oxford, on Sunday.
