West Ham loanee eyes strong Dons finish after Player of the Month nomination

Young striker Paul McCallum, on loan at AFC Wimbledon from West Ham, wants to end his Dons stay on a high after he was nominated for January’s League Two Player of the Month award.

The 19-year-old hit four goals in as many games as Neal Ardley’s side went unbeaten through January.

He is due back at West Ham on February 23 but he is hoping to score more goals for AFC Wimbledon until then.

“It was a great month for me as I was starting games and scoring goals to help Wimbledon do really well,” he told the club’s official website.

“I got the winner against Rochdale and then two goals against Wycombe Wanderers. I maybe should have scored more goals in that game to help us to victory, but that’s the way it goes as a striker.

“I expected to maybe score a couple of goals during my spell at Wimbledon, but not four goals in three games.

“Hopefully, I will get a chance to start again and get a couple more to help the club move away from the relegation zone.”

McCallum goes up against Northampton Town’s Chris Hackett and Bristol Rovers defender Tom Parkes for the award.

Ardley, meanwhile, has been nominated for the managers’ award, and he goes up against Gillingham boss Martin Allen and Bristol Rovers’ John Ward.
