With the big clash coming up on Sunday, we look at those who have played for both teams and rank them accordingly
West Ham and Liverpool players
There have been a rich seam of players who have turned out for both West Ham and Liverpool.
We make it 23 in all to have worn the red and the claret and blue and it is difficult to gauge who is the best to have turned out for both clubs.
We have had a go, but it is by no means a definitive list, so who do you think is the best of this bunch?
1. Julian Dicks
Real West Ham legend in two spells, punctuated by a couple of seasons at Liverpool.
He made 326 appearances for the Hammers, scoring 65 goals, many of them from thumping penalties.
His time at Liverpool was cut short by the sacking of Graeme Souness and he returned to West Ham where he was plagued by knee injuries. Currently on the West Ham coaching staff under Slaven Bilic.
2. David James
England goalkeeper, he played over 100 games for West Ham between 2001 and 2004 proving himself a reliable keeper. Moved to Man City when he felt his international place was in jeopardy after West Ham relegation.
By then he had already played 200+ games for Liverpool between 1992 and 1999.
3. Paul Ince
Came through the West Ham Academy and established himself in the first team where he played 91 games between 1986 and 1989.
Controversially moved to Man United, posing in United shirt before the deal was confirmed and then later went to Liverpool in 1997, making 65 league appearances, but not having a lot of success.
4. Joe Cole
Another West Ham Academy boy to make good. He burst into the first team at the age of 16 and had a real swagger about him, scoring 14 goals in 144 games.
Had seven years at Chelsea, before moving to Anfield where he played just 26 league games and admitted it was a mistake to go there.
Returned for a second spell at the Hammers in 2013.
5. Craig Bellamy
The speedy striker was a West Ham £7.5million signing when he moved to Upton Park from Liverpool in 2007.
Somewhat unpredictable, he was nicknamed ‘the nutter with the putter’ at Anfield after a clash with John Arne Riise.
Was popular at West Ham, scoring seven league goals in 24 games, before moving to Man City.
6. Neil Ruddock
Played over 100 games for Liverpool, helping them to win the 1995 League Cup, though certainly courting a lot of controversy at Anfield both on and off the field.
Moved to West Ham in 1998 and played 56 games, scoring three goals, being booked 14 times and sent off once. But he still helped the team to fifth place in the top flight.
7. Glen Johnson
Yet another Academy boy, he burst into the first team in 2002 at the age of 18 and made a huge impression, but when the Hammers were relegated, he moved to Chelsea.
Signed for Liverpool in 2009 and made 160 league appearances as well chalking up over 50 England caps at right-back.
8. Yossi Benayoun
Probably the West Ham man of the match in the 2006 FA Cup Final defeat by Liverpool, he had an impressive season at Upton Park with his tricky midfield skills.
The Israeli made 63 appearances in claret and blue before moving to Liverpool, where in three years he scored 29 goals.
9. Paul Konchesky
Goalscorer in that FA Cup Final against Liverpool, he was an important and consistent player for West Ham at left back, before joining Fulham.
Roy Hodgson brought him to Anfield, but neither he nor the manager was a success there.
10. David Burrows
A reliable defender, he made over 100 appearances for Liverpool before a surprise move to West Ham along with Mike Marsh as Julian Dicks went the other way.
Played 31 games before moving to Everton in the deal that returned Tony Cottee to Upton Park.
11. Don Hutchison
Combative midfielder, he excelled under Graeme Souness at Liverpool where he played over 50 games.
Signed by West Ham for £1.5million he had some disciplinary problems but scored 11 goals in 35 league games. Had a second spell at Upton Park between 2001 and 2005 bringing his appearances to over 100.
12. Andy Carroll
A big £35million signing for Liverpool from Newcastle United, the big man never quite lived up to that big money move.
Disliked by Brendan Rodgers, he moved to West Ham, initially on loan and then for £15million where he has scored goals, but his time has been blighted by injury.
13. Stewart Downing
Another whose time at Liverpool never quite worked out. Won the League Cup in 2012 with Pool, but moved to West Ham in 2013 where his best times came when he played at the tip of the diamond under Sam Allardyce.
14. Mike Marsh
Signed as part of the deal that took Julian Dicks to Anfield, he had already made 70 appearances for the Reds, winning the FA Cup along the way.
Made 61 appearances in claret and blue, scoring two goals.
15. Rigobert Song
The Cameroon defender impressed for Liverpool at right back for one season before losing his place and joining West Ham for £2.5m. Made 27 appearances for the Hammers.
16. Javier Mascherano
The illustrious midfielder arrived with Carlos Tevez in a shock move in 2006, but manager Alan Pardew never really got him, preferring Hayden Mullins. Played just five league games for the Hammers and moved to Liverpool in January 2007 where he made 94 appearances. Had a little more success at Barcelona!
17. Robbie Keane
Signed for Liverpool from Spurs in 2007, but never really made it at the club he had supported as a boy. He scored just five goals and moved back to Spurs the following January.
Went on loan to West Ham in 2011 to try and avoid relegation. He didn’t manage it.
18. Titi Camara
The Guinea international had a decent career at a host of European teams before signing for Liverpool where he scored nine goals, but was ousted by Emile Heskey.
Moved to West Ham in 2000 but made just eight appearances, failing to score.
19. Alvaro Arbeloa
Had a decent time at Liverpool between 2007 and 2009, playing 66 games, but his career peaked at Real Madrid where he won the Champions League, and with Spain where he won the World Cup.
Has not found his way with West Ham yet.
20. Ray Houghton
Not much you can say about his West Ham career. Made just one sub appearance before moving to Fulham, but had great time with Liverpool for whom he signed in 1987, winning two FA Cups with the Reds.
21. Rob Jones
Was an England international during his time with Liverpool, where he made 200 appearances. Plagued by back problems and other injuries, he eventually joined West Ham in 1999.
However, after appearing in the Intertoto Cup against Jokerit, injury struck again and he was forced to retire.
22. Neil Mellor
Another whose time was injury plagued. Never quite made it at Liverpool where he scored two goals in a dozen league games, he went on loan to West Ham, where injury and three different managers unsettled him and he scored twice in 21 games.
23. David Speedie
Made his name at Chelsea and Coventry City, his 12 games at Liverpool still yielded six goals, but he was moved out by Graeme Souness. Went on loan to West Ham in 1993, helping the team to promotion back to the top flight.
