West Ham skipper Kevin Nolan believes that fellow striker Andy Carroll can bounce back on missing out on the World Cup squad by showing everyone exactly what he can do this season.

The big Geordie spent most of last season on the treatment table and when he finally returned in January he could only muster two goals and consequently missed out on Roy Hodgson’s squad for Brazil.

But Nolan thinks that Carroll can show the England coach and the rest of the country what they were missing in the World Cup.

“It was a huge disappointment for Andy not going to the World Cup, but seeing how they did, he probably looked and thought ‘this is my chance now’.

“He has got the opportunity now to make sure he is fit and everything is in place for the European Championships when they come along in a couple of years time.”
