West Ham’s Armero looks for a permanent deal after impressive first start against Liverpool

The Hammers’ Colombian full back battled with Luis Suarez on Sunday and now is looking for a run of games in the team
After watching him come on as a substitute at Sunderland there were a few nervous fans around when they saw that Pablo Armero (left) was making his first start at Upton Park.
They needn’t have worried. While the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were storming forward, Armero showed his pace and his class to hold his own and twice thwart the Uruguyan’s attacks.
The 27-year-old Colombian international full back was just glad to finally make his Upton Park debut.
“Yes, it has been a while without playing, actually from the beginning,” he said with a grin.
“It has been very important for me to play. I thank God, my colleagues and the technical team who gave me the opportunity.
“I think I fulfilled what I wanted to do against Liverpool and I hope I can carry on enjoying the opportunites.”
It was certainly a baptism of fire for Almero. Twice Suarez stormed through in the second half, with the pacy full back getting back to first make a superb tackle and then to foul the striker and earn himself a yellow card.
“It was more than Suarez I had to be careful of,” said the defender. “It was about the whole Liverpool team.
“They are a great team and I think they did things right, but we also had opportunities.”
Having come on loan from Napoli in the Serie A, how is he finding the English game?
“It is a new experience for me, but it is very good. I like it,” he said.
It is very fast and exciting and I like how the crowd enjoy the games.
“I think it is thrilling and encouraging playing here and I enjoy it.”
With the World Cup this summer, Armero is just keen to play as many games as he can as well as earning a permanent deal.
“Firstly, I think of West Ham and give the maximum result here. It is normal that as we are getting close to the World Cup, I like to keep pace and be in full capacity,” he said.
“I would like to have a good end so in the future have a new contract with the team.”
