West Ham midfielder Alou Diarra will miss the Hammers’ Barclays Premier League clash with Stoke after he was ruled out for the season.

A serious knee injury in the Capital One Cup second-round victory over Cheltenham appears to have ended Diarra’s campaign just two weeks in.

Andy Carroll (foot) and George McCartney (knee) are also absent, but could be back in contention after the international break.

Provisional squad: Jaaskelainen, Adrian, Reid, Collins, Tomkins, Rat, Demel, O’Brien, Nolan, Collison, Morrison, Noble, Diame, Taylor, Vaz Te, Jarvis, Cole, Downing, Maiga
