Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen is a doubt for Saturday’s FA Cup clash at Brighton after picking up an ankle injury in last night’s win against West Ham, manager Arsene Wenger has revealed.

The Belgian was replaced by Laurent Koscielny 12 minutes into the second half after the Gunners had raced into a 5-1 lead.

Wenger was quick to point out it was not a serious injury but admits Vermaelen is unlikely to feature against the Seagulls.

“Vermaelen has an ankle problem,” he said.

“He got kicked and twisted a little bit.

“He is a doubt for Saturday but it is nothing major.”
