Sam Allardyce says West Ham midfielders Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan and Mohamed Diame need to “watch out” as star-in-the-making Ravel Morrison is pressing for a first team place.

Former Manchester United youngster Morrison impressed in pre-season for West Ham and produced a man of the match performance in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup win over Cheltenham.

The 20-year-old – who spent last season on loan at Birmingham City – was in dazzling form against the League Two side, and capped his performance with a well-taken goal from long range.

Allardyce has been hugely impressed by Morrison and admits it won’t be long before he gets his chance in the Premier League.

“It’s a carry on of his pre-season,” said the Hammers boss ahead of the visit of Stoke City this weekend.

“We’re all delighted to see his performance against Cheltenham and in particular his goal.

“That’s added to a total of seven in pre-season and this season. He is making a big statement now which is really good for me.”

“From a midfield point of view, Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan and Mo Diame watch out, this boy’s after your place.

“It’s going to really kick start those three to perform at the level we know they can, because this lad will sooner or later get the chance and take it.

“It’s really pleasing from my point of view we’ve got competition for places. When someone is on your heels, it perks the midfield players up. They think I’ve got to be careful I hope it’s not me he replaces.”
