It’s been quite a week that began with a series of FA Cup shock and culminated in a bizzarre transfer deadline day. Here London24 brings you the best quotes of the week.
Its fine. West Brom was my home but this is a new chapter. I love West Brom and always will. I am optimistic. A few good players have arrived here (at QPR) and I am happy with the trust Harry Redknapp has in me. The last few results have given us a chance to stay up. I dont think the owners will bring in so many players if they dont think it will happen. I hope West Brom are happy with what they will get and they hope to get players themselves.
Albion can confirm that no agreement was reached with QPR over the transfer of Peter Odemwingie before the closure of the January window and that the striker remains under contract at The Hawthorns. The club were extremely disappointed to witness TV footage of Odemwingie arriving at Loftus Road on Thursday evening despite further talks between the two Barclays Premier League sides proving fruitless. Odemwingie was also never given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.
I came to this club (West Brom) in a wholly unprofessional way. I wasnt given any written permission by Lokomotiv Moscow but I arrived at this club. I did a medical, I dont think everything went so professional when I arrived,
He felt a deal was done but it wasnt done between the two clubs. There were obviously one or two sticking points. He travelled down and just wanted to be on the premises to get the deal done. Unfortunately, he pulled up outside the ground and the cameras were there. He wasnt the only player that turned up and didnt get a deal done. There were other players at football grounds yesterday and the deals didnt go through at the last minute, for whatever reasons. I just hope the boy is going to be okay because he is a good person and it was a mistake that has been made. Hopefully he can move on from that.
How am I mortgaging QPR? The chairman brought Chris Samba in and he did the deal on (Loic) Remy, he brought Remy in. He will sell Remy if need be. That is such nonsense really.
Its agent speak. Its agents trying to create a frenzy by seeing if they can make something happen out of nothing. In general, I think what becomes public knowledge is always from agents. Youre not going to get it from a football club so the only place you can get it is either from the player himself or from his agents. But the fact nobody triggered Mo Diames clause is the reason why he is still here.
Sam Allardyce on false reports that a transfer bid had triggered the release clause in Mohamed Diames contract.
I think it was dead before [Thursday]. We tried it a few days ago and it never came to fruition.
Barcelona dont want to sell David Villa. They have made it very clear. You respect the desire. If I say that somebody is not for transfer, I expect the other clubs not to try to buy him.
My first choice target was probably Fernando Gago from Real Madrid because they wanted to get rid of him, but we couldnt get that sort of quality. But I had a few options and we went for a few players. Urby Emanuelson is a player I know well, comes from AC Milan and is no mug so I was quite happy to get him. I was talking to a player from my old club Spurs, Tom Huddlestone, but that didnt come off and Enoh was here already because you cant bet on one horse. Huddlestone was very close. They pulled out at the last moment so I was very happy Enoh was in the building and there was no damage done.
DJ travelled up for a medical. They then decided that theyre going to have a sandwich. Okay, and well resume talks after lunch. By this time it was only 12, 1 oclock. From that moment they left, I dont think his advisor spoke to my chief executive whos still waiting in the stadium so you can make your own mind up whether we treated him with total disrespect or whether his agent got a phone call from Blackburn during their lunch. We couldnt find him for two-three hours. Its that what Im annoyed about, not DJ. If they had rung and said weve got a wonderful offer from Blackburn and theyve blown you out of the water in terms of financial, Id have said good luck to the lad.
Hull boss Steve Bruce explains the failure to sign QPR striker DJ Campbell after claiming hes walked out of negotiations in order to get some food and never came back, instead turning up at Blackburn Rovers. And then ...
Just for the record, all this Im hearing about me is complete rubbish. I drove four hours to Hull and gave them hours to sort the deal, instead they wasted mine & my familys time.
Weve approached this market very sensibly. Ive kept it open in our conversations, if it was going to go out of proportion we would step out of it. The player has been linked recently with Spurs, weve made it public before that its a player that we chase, but we couldnt agree on the full conditions so weve moved on. Could it [a deal for Damiao] happen in the summer? No I dont think so, its probably finished now.
Obviously, the fans are unsettled with the manager. They dont really like the manager so anything little thing that goes wrong, they are always on their backs. I think that has played a part in their recent results so hopefully we can put that into our advantage and take the positives and unsettle their fans again at their place.
We wont be scared, we werent scared today. We came out to let our football do the talking.
Its a team I think that should beat a team two divisions below. It tells me that I need to improve the squad. Weve picked up in the last 10 games. Were getting blood out of a stone. I gave them a chance today because they knock on my door and say they should be playing. Others tell me they are good players and they blew it.
The guy they put on me looked really worried. He was begging me in the second half to try not to score a goal. Were very happy with the way we played.
Any other business
We are doing a good job in terms of what you can see on the pitch. The team is doing well.
I dont think that he can see this as a trophy. He said that its really important for the club and especially now with the money thats involved in the Champions League. You can see it as something really important. If you can progress and win trophies that is better.
There is no better culture shock than Stoke when you come from Spain! They had a very physical game and I think he dealt well with it.
