George Purcell was back on the goal trail once again as he netted in a 2-2 for the Urchins against West Ham United’s development team yesterday in their opening pre-season friendly

Sebastian Lletget got the Hammers off to a good start with two early efforts, one of which was deflected over the bar.

But the American would be the provider for the opener when his centre found striker Jordan Brown who tapped home after 20 minutes.

Their lead only lasted nine minutes though when from a similar move, Jamie Hursit’s cross was met by Martynas Salteris who made no mistake.

The Hammers went back in front in the second half when Taylor Tombides got on the end of a crossfield ball and he volleyed past Urchins goalkeeper Callum Chafer.

Again though their lead didn’t last long as a minute later Tobi Joseph played the ball into the path of Purcell and he blasted Jimmy McFarlane’s side level.

Chafer made two good saves as the game drew to a close, and now the Urchins move on to next weekend’s trip to Whitstable Town.

West Ham first-half: T.Brown, Westley, Oxford, Pask, Page, Sadlier, Nasha, Lletget, Turgott, J.Brown, Diangana

West Ham second-half: Boness, Pike, Harney, Onariase, Borg, Makasi, Bywater, Bailey, Mavila, Amoo, T.Tombides (Sheriff)

Hornchurch second half: Chafer, Luke, Nahum, Griffin, Beckles, May, Bourne, Starkey, Joseph, Purcell, Dadson.

Non League Round Up

Meanwhile, Ilford’s first run out ahead of the Essex Senior League campaign included several triallists, but Allan Fenn’s side were edged out 2-1 against Hertfordshire Senior League side Hinton at the Met Police ground in Chigwell.

They will now take on Redbridge on Tuesday night at the same venue.

Essex Olympian League side Westhamians also got the better of London Bari in their opening pre-season game.
