Former Tons number two departs Old Spotted Dog to replace Julian Dicks

Marc Nurse has left his role as assistant boss at Essex Senior League outfit Clapton to become manager of West Ham Ladies and fill the void left by Julian Dicks.

Dicks left his role as manager on June 29 to join the backroom staff of Hammers boss Slaven Bilic at Upton Park.

And former Tons number two Nurse has taken over from the West Ham legend and will hope the move can be a springboard to more success.

Nurse has been at Clapton for a number of years and is also an academy coach at League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge.

But on Friday it was revealed he was the new West Ham Ladies manager and a club statement said: “With a UEFA B license and working towards UEFA A, Marc has the qualifications, experience and ambition that we were after.

“Marc takes the reigns after Julian Dicks left and will now help to finalise the rest of his coaching set-up.”

Nurse was straight into the thick of things as well as a West Ham Ladies development team played a friendly fixture against Portsmouth on Sunday at Beckton.

Goals from Emma Sherwood and Paige Anderson-James gave the Hammers a 2-1 half-time lead.

Shirvae Edwards extended that advantage after the break before Sherwood added her second to earn a 4-1 victory.

“Fantastic game, really proud of the team. Great 4-1 win against a competitive Portsmouth side, lots of new trialists and a few under-16s involved,” said Nurse.

The Hammers finished sixth in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division last year and will look to improve on that under the management of Nurse.

For the upcoming season they will play their home matches at Ryman North side Hornchurch’s Bridge Avenue Stadium.
