Hussain happy after two recent wins

Newham manager Zakir Hussain is delighted his side responded to last week’s defeat to Stansted by achieving two Essex Senior League victories.

They disappointingly lost 2-0 to Stansted on December 9, but bounced back from that defeat to pick up six points over three days.

They firstly beat Enfield 1893 on Saturday at Barrows Farm, before earning another win yesterday (Monday) at the Old Spotted Dog against Basildon United.

Hussain said: “We obviously had the Clapton win on December 6 and then the Stansted defeat.

“And like we have been doing all season we have bounced back, but we have got two wins in a row now.

“It was very pleasing. The boys are playing really well and enjoying their football.

“We have had two good wins and we have scored goals as well and that is important because our goal difference isn’t very good.

“There is just a really good vibe around the club at the moment and for us to be where we are in the league is brilliant.”

Vlad Sighiartau scored the first against Enfield before Paul Oshin and Jack Sawyer completed the 3-1 victory.

And Sighiartau opened the scoring two days later against Basildon, before Dan Crowie doubled the lead.

Further goals from Oshin, Sawyer and debutant Brodie Newbury capped the 5-2 win to move Newham up to fifth in the table.

“Vlad has done tremendously well and he has been on the right,” revealed Hussain.

“We wanted him to understand the league a little more and then put him in his best position, as a striker.

“He is hard working, he is talented and is getting goals now.

“Jack has been in and out of the team through injury but he has got two goals in two games.

“Dan has three in three games as well so we are scoring goals from all areas. We aren’t relying on our strikers, which is pleasing.”
