Essex Senior League: Southend Manor 0 London APSA 1

Fahad Nyanja’s 87th minute penalty ended London APSA’s five-game winless run at Southend Manor last night.

APSA goalkeeper Manuel Selva did well to tip over a shot after just three minutes, and went on to secure his first clean sheet for the club despite a makeshift defence on the night.

Akin Tinuoye, 17, stood out in particular by filling in at left back alongside the more experienced Jorge Sambu, Nyanja and Amod Adeyemi.

Keith Oppong and Carlos Djalo often combined well in the opening period, but never side were able to break the deadlock as it remained goalless at the break.

The second half was uneventful, with neither goalkeeper forced to make a save throughout and it looked like ending goalless until Nyanja took it upon himself to instigate a late APSA push.

An 85th minute shot was well saved by the Southend ‘keeper, before he was brought down in the box two minutes later.

And he made no mistake from the spot for his 12th goal of the season to seal an important win which moves APSA up to 11th in the Essex Senior League table.

London APSA: Selva, Adeyemi, Tinuoye, Sambu, Nyanja, Da Silva, Kahie, Nunes, Oppong, Djalo, Ogunwole
