After much office debate the London24 sports desk has picked a star 11 based on the weekend’s performances from around the capital’s 14 Premier League and Football League clubs.

Among the highlights, there were goals galore in the London derby between Arsenal and Fulham as they played out a dramatic 3-3 draw, while West Ham continued their purple patch with a 1-0 victory at Newcastle.

Crystal Palace maintained their stunning run – 13 unbeaten – and their place at the top of the Championship.

Brentford and Leyton Orient both ran out 2-1 winners in League One, while AFC Wimbledon drew first blood against York with a 3-0 victory in League Two ahead of their FA Cup first round replay at Kingsmeadow.

In the basement division, Dagenham & Redbridge claimed the biggest winning margin of the weekend, thumping Rotherham 5-0 at home.

And with many positive performances from London-based players the ToW XI proved a hard decision this week with Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz, West Ham United’s Mohamed Diame, Millwall midfielder Jimmy Abdou, Brentford stopper Simon Moore and Dagenham & Redbridge duo Dwight Gayle and Matt Saunders all just missing out.

We’ve gone with a 4-3-3 formation so see whether you agree with our choices. If you have a different view, then get involved and leave a comment at the bottom of this article or tweet us @London24Sport using #L24TeamOfTheWeek.

GOALKEEPER – Jussi Jaaskelainen; West Ham United

The Finnish goalkeeper made a string of fine saves during the 1-0 Premuer League triumph at Newcastle on Sunday to secure a hard fought three points and the Hammers’ first back-to-back clean sheet of the season.

DEFENDER – Femi Ilesanmi; Dagenham & Redbridge

The 21-year-old set up two of the goals in the 5-0 League Two thrashing of Rotherham and was solid at the back, putting in his best performance of the season.

DEFENDER – Dannny Shittu; Millwall

The experienced centre back has been central to the Lions’ recent run as the 2-1 victory over Derby extended their unbeaten streak to nine games.

The win moved them into the top ten of the Championship which is where manager Kenny Jackett hopes to establish the south Londoners as one of the best 30 teams in the country.

This is also his second appearance in our Team of the Week after making the first cut three weeks ago.

DEFENDER – John Terry; Chelsea

He may have only been in the pitch for 35 minutes of their 1-1 Premier League draw with Liverpool but the Blues’ skipper - on his return from a four-match ban for that comment to QPR’s Anton Ferdinand - showed that whatever anyone thinks about him as a person, as a footballer he is vital for Chelsea.

He scored a fabulous headed opener - his 50th for the Blues - and shored up a defence that had looked anything but solid in his absence. The potentially serious knee injury that ended his afternoon against Liverpool not only saw the Reds snatch a point to highlight his side’s frailties without him but will have Blues fans hoping for a speedy recovery.

DEFENDER – Michael Morrison; Charlton Athletic

The centre back scored the Addicks’ second goal and helped keep a third clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 win that condemned rock-bottom Bristol City to a club record-equalling seventh successive Championship defeat.

The victory also saw Charlton climb to 16th, putting seven points of breathing room between them and the Championship drop zone.

MIDFIELD – Wilfried Zaha; Crystal Palace

The Eagles star keeps his place in our Team of the Week for the second week running after he spearheaded the 5-0 midweek rout of Ipswich then inspired

a late comeback to beat Peterborough 2-1 - a result which kept their place at the top of the Championship. Posh boss Darren Ferguson said afterwards that the youngster is the best player in the division and England manager Roy Hodgson must have concurred as he called him into the full international side for the first time ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Sweden.

MIDFIELD – Mark Noble; West Ham United

Kevin Nolan may have made the headlines by netting the only goal in the win over former club Newcastle but it was the homegrown star that provided the real impetus for the Hammers – just edging out team-mate Mohamed Diame – as they made it four games unbeaten in the Premier League.

MIDFIELD – Luke Howell; Dagenham & Redbridge

He scored two of his side’s five against Rotherham in the League Two rout and could have had a hat-trick as the midfielder made it six goals for the season

FORWARD – Olivier Giroud; Arsenal

The Frenchman has taken his time to settle in north London and the Premier League, but his brace against Fulham took him to six for the season and he looks to be brimming with confidence

FORWARD – Kevin Lisbie; Leyton Orient

The striker bagged both goals in the 2-1 League One victory over Shrewsbury on his first start in eight games, the winner coming two minutes from time.

FORWARD – Dimitar Berbatov; Fulham

The Bulgarian was a class apart in the thrilling 3-3 top flight draw at the Emirates, scoring two and setting up the other. Arsenal’s defenders couldn’t get near him and he just edged out Whites strike partner Bryan Ruiz for a place in the Team of the Week.
