Orient manager Russell Slade had strong words for the club’s fans after last night’s damaging defeat at home to Bristol City.

A section of the Brisbane Road crowd ironically cheered blundering goalkeeper Shwan Jalal as he caught the ball towards the end of a match which saw the O’s waste the chance to return to the top of League One.

Slade branded the behaviour ‘shocking’ as he vented his frustration at the ‘disappointing performance.’

“I wouldn’t wish that on any professional player, nobody deserves that,” he added.

“If that’s their way of protesting or not getting behind the team, I’d rather they stayed at home.”

Who would have thought Allan McGregor’s rush of blood to the head would have such a damaging effect on Orient’s season.

The Hull goalkeeper’s sending off led to the recall of Eldin Jakupovic, who had conceded once in four games during his brief loan spell at the club.

Since his return to Humberside, Ben Alnwick and Jalal have shipped seven goals in three defeats.

The Bournemouth loanee looked shaky all game, especially from crosses into the box, and Orient found themselves two down inside 12 minutes.

And Jalal was at fault for the third goal which clinched the three points for the visitors, getting caught in no-man’s land as Aden Flint headed into his unguarded net.

After the atrocious start, Slade admitted some ‘harsh words’ were exchanged at half-time.

“Overall, it’s really disappointing,” he said.

“Some honest words were said at half-time. Individuals needed to know because the goals we’ve conceded tonight are uncharacteristic of us.

“The first was a one-on-one, the second was a set play and the third was an error as well.

“They’re not goals you want to be conceding if you want to be challenging for a place in the Championship.

“There were chances for us in the second half and at 2-1 I thought we had a chance. The next goal was crucial but unfortunately we didn’t get it.”

Slade confirmed top scorer David Mooney was on the bench because he’s still working his way back to full fitness after two months out with a foot injury.

Orient goalscorer Kevin Lisbie came off towards the end with a sore back but his manager hopes he will be available for Saturday’s trip to Preston.
