The crowd can play a massive part in Orient’s crunch promotion clash with Brentford on Saturday, according to manager Russell Slade.

Brisbane Road is expecting its first sell-out since the FA Cup tie against Arsenal three years ago.

Last night’s 2-0 win at Port Vale kept the O’s a point clear of their London rivals in second place in League One.

Saturday’s 12.15pm kick-off will be broadcast live on Sky and Slade says these are the kind of games the club “deserve.”

“It’s going to be a fantastic occasion,” he added.

“The football club, the players, the fans, everyone connected with Leyton Orient deserve a big day like that.”

Slade admits the match with the Bees is a vital game.

But he thinks that would be the case no matter who the O’s came up against at this stage of the season.

He said: “It’s vital but it doesn’t matter who we’re playing. It happens to be Brentford. It would be vital if it was anyone else in the league.

“It’s going to be a tough game because they’re a very good side. Their record stands up.

“If we could take three points of them it would be fantastic, it would give us a little bit more momentum and put them under pressure.”

Orient won at Vale Park for the first time in 57 years thanks to a fantastic goal by Dean Cox and captain Nathan Clarke’s first for the club at the 79th time of asking.

The O’s looked comfortable when Clarke doubled the lead just before the hour mark but the hosts put them under concerted pressure in the closing stages.

Goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic made superb saves to deny Chris Birchall and Jennison Myrie-Williams, keeping his seventh clean sheet in 10 Orient games in the process, Billy Knott hit the bar and Ben Williamson and Tom Pope both had goals disallowed.

Slade is delighted with how his side dug in to break the Valiants hoodoo.

“We didn’t start fantastically well,” he admitted. “We were a little bit sloppy but grew into the game.

“I’m confident in my group and I know they will go out and do everything they can do to win the football game. They’ll never give up.”
