Slade praises players after Orient continue Carlisle dominance

Carlisle United must be sick of the sight of Orient after the east Londoners put them to the sword at Brisbane Road.

The O’s won 4-0 - and the last four matches over the last two seasons between the clubs have ended in an aggregate of 17-3 in their favour.

Manager Russell Slade was full of praise for his players as they kept pace with leaders Brentford at the top of League One while confirming Orient want to extend striker Robbie Simpson’s deal.

“We’re four unbeaten now and it’s another little run,” he said. “It’s fantastic.

“The clean sheet was important because although we were creating chances we wanted to keep the back door shut.

“We could have won by more but to win by four was fantastic. Goal difference could be important at the end of the season.”

Brisbane Road erupted moments before half-time when Scott Cuthbert headed in a corner after a frustrating first half.

The Cumbrians keeper Greg Fleming had kept Orient at bay with a number of quality saves but the hosts ran riot after the break.

Substitute Jamie Ness smashed in a superb second from all of 30 yards soon after half-time - his first for the club on his home debut- and Kevin Lisbie ended his long goal drought with a fine volley.

There was still time for another sub, Shaquile Coulthirst, to skip round Fleming and slot in his first senior goal in stoppage time.

Slade was delighted with the performance of Simpson, whose contract expired after Saturday’s game. “Robbie’s been struggling with a hamstring strain but his contribution today was good,” he said.

“We’d like to extend his deal.”
