For the second time in a row, Leyton Orient started their calendar year with a heavy defeat at Yeovil.

Manager Russell Slade saw his side thrashed 4-0 in the FA Cup third round at Huish Park on Saturday.

But while he was disappointed with the result, he admits the League One promotion challenge is the O’s priority now - starting with last night’s game against Shrewsbury.

“The performance was a little bit mixed,” said Slade.

“The good thing about this defeat is we lose nothing in the league. We were all jumping up and down when Gillingham scored against Wolves on Friday night.

“Now we want to jump back into the top two and there’s still a lot to play for this season.”

Orient made four changes from the draw at Wolves, a mixture of forced and enforced.

Romain Vincelot and Robbie Simpson have knee and hamstring injuries respectively, Marvin Bartley is ineligible while Kevin Lisbie dropped to the bench.

Scott Cuthbert returned from suspension, new loan signing Jamie Ness came in for his debut while Yohann Lasimant and Gary Sawyer came off the bench.

Orient started the game well enough but after James Hayter gave Yeovil the lead with a header - goalkeeper Jake Larkins was culpable after coming for Luke Ayling’s free-kick and getting caught in no-man’s land - there was only one winner.

Joel Grant doubled the lead shortly after the break, moments after Lasimant fired into the side netting in Orient’s best chance of the afternoon.

Hayter added a second and substitute Kieffer Moore added some gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time.

Slade admitted Lisbie would have been called into action if Orient had ‘still been in the game with 20 minutes remaining.’

He conceded that Yeovil were the better team: “We started the game brightly but then they scored against the run of play.

“The second goal was a killer and they deserved to go through.

“We’ve got injuries and we had decisions to make in the team selection. When the game was beyond us, we took off James, Cox and Baudry to save them for the next game.”
