Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade was content with a point from Tuesday night’s goalless draw against Swindon Town

Manager Russell Slade conceded the weather got the better of Leyton Orient’s match with Swindon Town, as they played out a dire 0-0 draw for the first time since November 2011 – a run of 68 games!

The match, played amid heavy rain and swirling winds throughout, produced few clear cut opportunities, though Andy Williams hit the post for the Robins and O’s substitute Jimmy Smith saw a late effort brilliantly palmed away by goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

The big boost for Orient was successfully keeping their 10th clean sheet of the season – made all the more impressive as Paolo Di Canio’s Swindon had scored 17 goals in their previous five matches – a fact not lost on boss Slade.

“They are a very good side and in very good form,” he said.

“They are free-scoring, so to keep a clean sheet in those conditions was fantastic for us.

“They had the better of the first half, but we came into it in the second period and looked more of a threat. We coped with the conditions better in the second period.

“Nobody played for a draw, but the conditions were probably the winner.”
