Scunthorpe United boss Russ Wilcox was frustrated at the sloppy goals his side conceded against Leyton Orient yesterday.

The Iron had gone into the game off the back of a 2-1 win over Coventry on Tuesday night, but found themselves behind when Scott Cuthbert thundered a header past Bobby Olejnik from Dean Cox’s corner.

That immediately gave the hosts a mountain to climb, while Wilcox also felt they lost the crowd with that early goal.

“We spoke about getting on the front foot to back up Tuesday night’s excellent performance and within two minutes we are on to Plan B. That’s disappointing,” said Wilcox.

“We spoke about getting balls into our front two early, certainly for the first five minutes to relieve pressure against our back four and make them defend a little deeper.

“We didn’t do that and gave the ball away cheaply. They counter-attacked and a long throw resulted in the corner and we find ourselves 1-0 down.

“So all the momentum from Tuesday, in terms of the players confidence and the supporters belief in us to get back to back wins at home in the league, went out the window.”

After some stern words at half time Wilcox was pleased with the reaction as Matt Sparrow equalised for the Glanford Park side.

However within a matter of minutes Jobi McAnuff put the visitors back in front and Wilcox was annoyed by their ability to gift the O’s the lead once again.

“There were lots of issues to address at half time,” he added. “I thought we came out and had a right go in the second half and got ourselves back in the game.

“Similar to Tuesday night, you then want to get on the front foot and go on and pick up the three points.

“But it’s been our Achilles heel all season in terms of conceding cheap goals and again we have thrown goals away cheaply which is disappointing.”
