A penalty curse has been hanging over Leyton Orient all season.

David Mooney, Kevin Lisbie and Elliot Omouzsi have combined to spurn five spot kicks this season, but the O’s may just have found the answer to the riddle.

Midfielder Lloyd James confidently dispatched two penalties to seal victory over an injury-ravaged Swindon Town side.

But according to the Welshman, it was just “his turn.”

“It was my turn to take penalties and luckily enough I scored twice,” said James.

“You’ve got to be confident in that situation to step up and take a penalty. I’ve taken a few in shoot outs and I scored one at Stevenage in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy so I was confident in my technique.

“Most of the penalties this season have been good saves by the goalkeeper. They haven’t been poor.”

Orient’s players were informed of Wolves’s 3-0 win at Brentford while they were warming down on the Brisbane Road pitch.

It’s a result that enabled the O’s to go top of League One on goals scored, albeit having played two games more than both of their rivals.

But James stressed the importance of concentrating on their own performances as the promotion race intensifies.

The 26-year-old said: “We need to make sure we take as many points as possible and take it from there.

“If we produce more performances like we did against Swindon we won’t be far off the mix-up come the end of the season.

“Back to back wins is massive after three straight defeats, not forgetting an excellent point at Preston.”
