Slade calls for improvements

Orient boss Russell Slade says his men have to put their Good Friday disappointment behind them and be ready for table-topping Wolves tomorrow.

A 2-1 defeat at Crawley ended the club’s hopes of automatic promotion from League One, as Brentford secured their place in the Championship instead.

And Slade wants his side to get over the loss quickly as they look to rediscover their form for the play-offs.

He said: “We just have to keep plugging away. It is what it is now, it’s the play-offs and we have to embrace that now and be positive.

“We have to improve. I asked for improvement before the game and we need to be better if we’re going to go up via the play-offs.

“We need to make sure we’re performing at a very high standard.”

Orient started well enough at Crawley, but fell behind to a Gwion Edwards goal.

Chris Dagnall replied before the break, but Adam Drury’s header proved the difference between the sides in the second half.

And Slade was not too impressed with the goals his side conceded, adding: “If you concede goals like that it’s always going to be a worry and it’s going to be a bit of a fight to try and get back in it.

“I thought we created a few chances in the first period and I thought we had a good foothold in the game when they actually scored.

“We’ve not picked up runners and seen the danger quick enough and on the second one it looks like we haven’t marked at all.

“We never give up and in the last 15 minutes we threw everything at them to try and get a goal and actually created a chance or two. One fell to David Mooney and we thought maybe he’d dispatch that one.”

The 20-goal striker was unable to rescue Orient a point on this occasion, but Slade’s men will have a sell-out crowd behind them at Brisbane Road tomorrow lunchtime (12.15pm).

Wolves can clinch the title with victory, though, and arrive in east London on the back of a thrilling 6-4 win over Rotherham at Molineux on Friday.
