Pre-season friendly: Dartford 2 Leyton Orient 3

Leyton Orient began their pre-season with a 3-2 success at Conference South side Dartford.

Lloyd James was on target twice for the O’s, but the Darts reduced the arrears going into the break through Lee Noble.

Substitute Scott Kashket won and successfully converted a second half penalty to restore the two-goal cushion only for the hosts to pull one back late on through Tom Derry, before the game was brought to a premature halt four minutes from time with thunder and lightning in the area.

Adam Legzdins made his first start in goal for the O’s, while youth team players Sam Ling, Jack Humphrey and Montell Agyemang got the chance to impress from the off.

And it only took 12 minutes for Russell Slade’s side to break the deadlock when James fired past home goalkeeper Jason Brown following a long ball.

The former Welsh youth international then added the second with a fine strike from 25 yards, though just short of the half hour mark the hosts pulled one back when Legzdins came out but couldn’t gather Ryan Hayes’ free-kick, and that gave Noble the chance to head home.

The second half brought about the usual raft of changes, and O’s boss Russell Slade used the opportunity to look at trialists George Elokobi, formerly of Wolves, and ex-Derby defender Valentin Gokaj.

Youngster Kashket converted from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box to move Orient 3-1 in front and only the bar denied Harry Lee from making it four.

Gary Woods replaced Legzdins just after the hour mark to mark his O’s debut, but he could do little to stop the Darts from adding to their tally when Derry’s deflected effort found the net.

However, just as the game was drawing to a close, the game was brought to a premature halt by the referee with thunder and lightning in the area .

Leyton Orient (first half): Legzdins, Ling, Baudry, Humphrey, Sawyer, Agyemang, Bartley, James, Cox, Batt, Lisbie

(second half): Legzdins (Woods 61), Elokobi, Nikolaou, Gjokaj, Omozusi, Kashket, Vincelot, Pritchard, Lee, Mooney, Dagnall
